I am Promise Excel AMA about Increasing your visibility, influence and income via Blogging and Podcasting

Ask me anything about growing your influence, visibility and income online leveraging on digital media.

Let’s admit it, we all want attention.

We want to be noticed, seen and heard.

Why do you think babies cry when nobody is around to look after them?

They crave attention too!

Why do you think big companies and brands use women to advertise their products and services?

Attention!

It is the asset of the 21st century.

The more attention you’re able to pull, the more money you’re able to make.

That’s why bloggers and every online business will do anything to be on the front page of Google search.

Whether you like it or not, you want some attention. You want people to talk about your business and brand.

Do you know how musicians make money from their songs?

No, it is not from the sale of their albums.

They are heavily paid for the attention they pull.

You’ve put in so many hours researching, writing and designing your website, the least you want is for people to notice your hard labour.

Don’t you think you deserve some buzz around your brand, after so much hard work you’ve put into it?

Do you give out ebooks or newsletters? If I want to write an ebook or newsletterfor a city guide, what topics can I include? I have a hard time figuring this since most ebooks are all about practical tips.

Which platform do you use for blogging? (Wordpress, Wix, Blogger, etc)

Nov 6, 6:43AM EST1

Hi John,

I use Wordpress.

However, given that there are over 72 million active users using WordPress today, it’s clear which platform is the boss. Even my own blog is built on WordPress blogging platform.

Here’s why:

  • It’s FREE for everyone to use (including themes, layouts and add-ons that many other blogging platforms don’t provide).
  • It’s super easy to set up.
  • It’s secure; WordPress is always updating their software and keeping everything sound and secure, so there’s rarely a worry of having your blog come under hacking attacks. No wonder Sony, NASA and even university blogs are using WordPress.
  • It’s HIGHLY customizable. There are hundreds of free themes and plugins that add more functionality to your blog, from contact and subscribe boxes to plugins that improve blog performance and more.

While the other blogging platforms (blogger, Joomla, etc) are generally all pretty OK, nothing, in my opinion, has ever come close to matching the freedom and customization options that WordPress offers. So without a doubt, go with WordPress. Especially when you are just starting out.

No matter what others would say, WordPress is just the best platform to use.

What are the best niches to earn money from?

Nov 6, 3:37AM EST0

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your question.

I have answered a question slightly to yours.

Here's my answer:

There are three mega niches that would always get people interested, get high engagement and make you money.

They are:

1. Health: Health is a big topic because as long as we're human, we will always have one health challenge or the other.

2. Relationship: Everyone seems to be in one relationship or the other. Hence, a blog that talks about relationship will always get engagement depending on how engaging the blog is and the story being shared.

3. Money: This seems to be the biggest topic of all time. People like and want money. Any blog that talks about genuine way of making money will always get engagement, as long as it is result-oriented and not "hear-say"

Then we have self-development, entrepreneurship and business.

Those topics will always get people interested and engaged.

Nov 8, 5:25AM EST0

Wow. Those make a lot of sense! Thank you so much.

I have another question. I'm planning to make an urban travel + ecotourism guide blog. Is that a profitable niche? If not, how can I make it profitable. I cant think of ebook topics or newsletters for this.

Do you think Journalism, Media & Blogging all go hand in hand?

Nov 6, 2:57AM EST0

How do you stop spam comments?

Nov 5, 11:39PM EST1

Spam comment is not something you can ever stop.

They will always come as long as the internet exists.

If your site is hosted on WordPress, then I recommend the plugin called Askimet.

What do you think of people who blog about their pets?

Nov 4, 11:52PM EDT0

Hi Britany,

There are lots of pet bloggers out there who are doing well.'

If you think that you're passionate about pets, then by all means go for it.

You just need to have at least 100 to 1000 people who are interested in the same thing as you.

Then connect with other pet bloggers.

Here's a list of pet bloggers to follow.

What niche in blogging do you think is still untapped and how does one improve his visibility on search and how long does it take to appear in Google search

Nov 4, 3:52PM EDT0

Hi Frank,

The niche in blogging that is untapped depends on your country.

So, I'd answer that question properly if I knew the country you live in.

For Nigeria where I am living now, so many niches are still untapped.

Niches like travel, food, fashion and personal finance. There's still opportunity in these niches.

The quickest way to improve your visibility on search is to guest blog for other blogs in your niche.

Write for magazines. Get fetured in podcasts.

And also sharing your blog links to Google+ also increases your visibility.

The lenght of time it takes to appear on Google search depends on your keyword.

It's almost difficult to rank on Google with keywords like "business", "health", "money".

Because hundreds and thousands of blogs have written similar content on those keywords.

So, it's better you focus on long tail keywords ( long tail keywords are search phrases that are highly relevant to your specific niche, product, service or topic, have low competition level, comparatively low search volume and, generally, consist of 3+ words.)

For example, instead of targeting “running shoes,” which is highly competitive, you can rank highly if you target “best women’s nike shoes” in your title and create truly useful content around that keyphrase.

Do you use Adwords to make money on your blog?

Nov 4, 7:11AM EDT0

Hi Hanahb,

Adwords is not for making money.

Adword is Google advertising platform just like we have Facebook advertising.

So, you use Adword to drive traffic to your blog/website.

You can Adsense to make money on your blog.

Adsense is owned by Google.

Application is free. Once your application is approved, you place some codes on your blog.

When people click on the Google ads on your blog, you make money.

By the way, I don't use Adsense on my blog.

Vlogging is not my strong point.

I prefer writing articles and podcasting.

However, I publish tutorials once in a while on my Youtube Channel.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given about blogging (or about online business in general?)

Nov 3, 5:43PM EDT0

Hi Jesa,

Thanks for your question.

The best advice I've been given about blogging and running an online business is this:

Know your audience.

That's where everything starts.

You're bound to fail if you're not clear about who you're serving.

So ask yourself these questions:

  1. Who are you helping?
  2. What are you helping them with?
  3. How will you help them?
  4. And how will you get paid to help them?

When you answer these questions honestly, you will probably find your audience.

What do you think are the essentials any blog should have in order to be successful?

Nov 3, 5:25AM EDT0

Hi Poorvi,

Thanks for your question.

Here are the essentials any blog should have in order to be successful.

They can be summarized into 5 P's

1. Find a problem

2. Find Your People

3. Find a Platform

4. Create a Product

5. Find a Process

6. Make Profit

7. Be Patient/Persistent

1. Find a Problem: You need to identify a hungry market with a problem, challenge, frustration, dissatisfaction, question or a burning desire. This will be the basis of your content, marketing, product creation and everything you'll do on the blog.

2. Find Your People: Build a tribe of raving fans around your blog. This means that you have to connect with them on a personal level as a human. Use your email list, social media and your blog to build a connection with them.

3. Find your platform: You need a platform to showcase your expertise, products and your business. Your platform is your place of authority and domination. Apart from your blog, Look out for other platforms to promote what you do. For most people, it is only social media. You can try other people's blog, podcast, and other platforms your ideal client will most likely be in.

4. Create a product: To build a profitable business blog, you need to sell products. It could be ebooks, video tutorials, audio programs, consultation, coaching programs, webinars, etc. Create products that solve the problem of your audience.

5. Find a Process: Blogging could be overwhelming if you don't have a process. You need to find a simple process that allows you to be productive.

6. Make profit: A successful blog is a blog that is making you considerable amount of money. And you make this profit/money from selling your digital products.

7. Be Patient/Persistent: Blogging is not get-rich-quick scheme. So, you have to be patient and put in the hard work. If you stay long enough doing the right thing consistently, you will eventually win.

Nov 7, 2:06AM EST0

Hi Nicz, thanks for your question.

The time estimated for researching and writing and article depends on what type of article it is.

For a tutorial or guide, it could take close to 6 hours for research and 4-6 hours for writing.

Sometimes even more.

Whenever I'm writing, I ensure that exhaust that topic and answer the obvious and hidden questions pertaining to that topic.

I hope that was helpful?
